Is a Maternity and Newborn Photography Plan Right for You?

As a new parent or mother-to-be, you’ve probably purchased something on Etsy to mark the size of your baby each month. In this digital age, it’s easier than ever to regularly document your children’s growth and development. While there’s value in having a cell phone full of daily content of your children, it’s different than hiring a professional to create gorgeous heirlooms of your family to display in your home and pass on to future generations. If you want to visually tell the story of your growing baby and appreciate having someone hold your hand while doing so, a maternity and newborn photography plan might be the perfect fit for you.

I’m participating in a blog circle this month and am sharing a link to a wonderful photographer in Minnesota! Be sure to check out her link at the end of this post.

3 Reasons to Invest in a Maternity and Newborn Photography Plan

01. Convenience in creating family heirlooms

When you invest in a maternity and newborn photography plan, you’re investing in regular, professional documentation of your baby’s life. Those photos can then be turned into a gorgeous, handcrafted album or statement gallery wall, creating heirlooms for your child to enjoy as they grow up until they pass them on to their own children one day.

Your photographer will have access to materials of the highest quality to showcase your photographs, and can even design your heirlooms for you–one less thing for you to worry about as you care for your new baby.

02. Membership benefits and savings on single sessions

If you know you want to have multiple photo sessions with your baby, enrolling in a luxury membership will save you money compared to scheduling individual sessions, plus the effort it takes to do so. Or if you’d like to schedule a maternity and newborn photography session but aren’t sure about adding more right now, a membership gives you the flexibility to try it out and schedule more sessions later at a reduced cost.

Memberships also often come with additional savings and benefits, such as discounts on artwork or surprise gifts.

03. Elevated storytelling of important milestones

With a photography membership, your baby’s biggest milestones won’t be remembered (or lost!) as a grainy iPhone photo. Investing in professional photography means having elegant, beautiful keepsakes of the most precious memories you share with your child. Photographs that don’t just freeze a moment, but tell a story. Enrolling in a membership plan makes documenting these chapters much easier to do than if you were to do it on your own, amidst the busyness of everyday life.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should we schedule photoshoots during our baby’s first year?

The Motherhood Membership includes 2-4 sessions scheduled within a 16 month period, designed to cover milestones between pregnancy and your baby’s first birthday. Some families choose to schedule sessions at regular, seasonal intervals, while others choose specific occasions to photograph.

Popular milestones include maternity, newborn, 6 months, one year, and an outdoor family session after their first birthday. 30 minute petite sessions are also available for membership clients to document smaller milestones like a pregnancy announcement or gender reveal.

What should we wear for each session?

Before each membership session, I’ll reach out to schedule a complimentary wardrobe and styling consultation. We’ll discuss your vision for the session and go over wardrobe options for your whole family. I can even create a Pinterest board and send you links to my favorite clothing options and stores if you plan to supplement your wardrobe for the shoot.

Can we order an album for our baby?

Of course! I offer two types of handcrafted, heirloom albums that are perfect for displaying each milestone of your membership. When you purchase an album, I’ll custom design all of the page designs and layout–all you have to worry about is choosing your favorite photographs.

Is The Motherhood Membership only for maternity and newborn photography?

While The Motherhood Membership was designed for mothers to document their baby’s life from pregnancy through their first year, other families who want to regularly photograph their growing children can take advantage of enrollment too!

A popular plan for families includes a portrait session for each child’s birthday, an anniversary session for the parents, and an annual family session. Or, if you prefer a more regular cadence, opt for a family session during each season.

If you’re interested in booking a maternity and newborn photography plan, I encourage you to reserve your membership at the start of your second trimester. Maternity sessions are usually scheduled for around 7 months, and this will give us enough time to start planning your first session.
