The culinary scene in Philadelphia never disappoints. With so many fantastic restaurants, it can be impossible to choose where to eat, especially if you’re feeling the clock ticking before your little one comes. As expecting parents, it’s essential to savor those precious moments before the baby arrives. And what better way to do that than by enjoying a romantic date night at some of the finest restaurants in the city? Here’s a list of my top 10 best date night restaurants in Philadelphia before baby comes so you can eat (and drink!) well and celebrate this special time.
Located in Rittenhouse Square, The Love has the perfect, cozy ambiance for a romantic evening. I’d describe their food as upscale American with a South twist and they have a good selection of non-alcoholic drink options. I even tried the non-alcoholic champagne and was pleasantly surprised! My favorite thing on the menu was the fried cauliflower appetizer–it was by far the best I’ve ever had.
If you’re looking for a vegan or non-alcoholic bar experience, The Volstead in Manayunk is a gem. With a focus on plant-based cuisine and a full bar of NA spirits, you can indulge without worry. The atmosphere is dark and cozy and makes for a memorable date night!
A retro-inspired American restaurant in the heart of Midtown Village, Bud & Marilyn’s offers comfort food with a modern twist. The warm atmosphere and delicious menu make it a fantastic choice for a pre-baby date night. They also have a fantastic brunch if that’s more your vibe.
Fiorella Pasta is an intimate spot in the Italian Market with handmade pasta dishes that are sure to satisfy your carb cravings. There are only a few tables, so be sure to get a reservation in advance.
While it may be a bit challenging to get a reservation here (i.e. plan ahead!), the experience at Laser Wolf is worth the effort. This Middle Eastern-inspired eatery in Fishtown has some of the best hummus and pita I’ve ever had. It’s the perfect place for a special night out before parenthood begins.
Barcelona is one of my favorite spots in the city. Located on Passyunk Avenue, this Spanish restaurant and bar is a hidden gem that’s fairly easy to get into. With its tapas-style dining and a wide selection of wines (and good non-alcoholic cocktails!), it’s a fantastic choice for a leisurely and romantic evening.
The Dandelion in Rittenhouse Square oozes the charm of a British pub. This cozy spot is known for its comforting dishes and welcoming atmosphere, making it a great choice for an intimate date night. If you can handle the fishy-ness, their fish and chips are cooked in beef tallow and are by far the best I’ve ever had.
White Dog Cafe, located in University City, offers a farm-to-table dining experience with a focus on sustainability. The eclectic decor and delicious cuisine make it a memorable choice for expectant parents. I’ve never had something I haven’t enjoyed here.
I love the lush oasis that is Harper’s Garden. This outdoor garden restaurant in Center City provides a serene setting for a romantic evening, allowing you to enjoy nature and each other’s company. This is a great spot to dine outdoors if the weather is nice!
Nestled in Fishtown, Elwood offers a menu inspired by American classics, particularly Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine. The stylish and relaxed ambiance makes it an excellent choice for a casual yet delightful date night. Just thinking about their food makes me drool!
Wind down your date night with a sweet treat at Weckerly’s Ice Cream in Fishtown. Their handcrafted, small-batch ice cream will surely satisfy your sweet tooth!
I highly recommend each of the spots on this list and would be happy to revisit any of them, pregnant or not. I hope your pre-baby date nights are filled with happy memories and yummy food. Congrats to you on this exciting journey!
