It’s no secret that spring is a highly desired time to take family portraits. This joyous season symbolizes new life, growth, and possibility. The world is finally starting to re-emerge after a long winter, but schedules aren’t jam-packed yet with family vacations and summer programs. Keep reading to see my top 5 reasons why spring is one of the best times to take family photos!
Looking for a Philadelphia family photographer?
Having just come out of a slower winter season, your preferred photographer will likely have the most availability during the spring. We’re also itching for an excuse to get outdoors–as I’m sure your family is too! If you’re thinking of booking a spring family session, be sure to contact your photographer several weeks ahead of time, especially if you’re trying to have a certain flower or tree in bloom during your shoot. This will give you the best chance of getting the date that works best for your schedule.
Is there anything more beautiful than a field full of flowers or a grove of trees at peak bloom? I can’t think of a time when the world is more beautiful than in springtime. Spring blooms make the perfect backdrop for your family photos. Not only are they colorful and unique, but are elegant and timeless. When scheduling your spring session, keep in mind that cherry trees generally reach peak blossom during the first half of April, and tulips bloom during the second half.
Spring is the perfect time of year to take family portraits if your little ones have early bedtimes. While the days are getting longer, the sun still sets relatively early, which means we can take advantage of that beautiful golden hour light without having to keep your kids up past when they’re usually winding down. Spring portrait sessions usually start around 5-5:30 pm, while summer sessions don’t often start until 7-7:30 pm, for example. This means that your family session can be done before dinner time without compromising on getting the most flattering light.
If you want timeless and romantic photographs, spring is your time to shine! Flowing dresses, linen fabrics, and floral details are perfect for this season. You can’t go wrong with a spring color palette – light neutrals and soft pastels photograph beautifully. Plus, it’s warm enough to wear light layers or breezy fabrics, but not so hot that you’ll be uncomfortable or have to worry about sweating.
Popular photo locations, especially ones in touristy areas, are much less crowded during the spring. It’s easier to snag a spot with the prettiest view and you will have less of an audience (if any!) near where your shoot is taking place. Depending on the location, entrance fees to popular attractions are often cheaper during the off-season too.
After the long, cold east coast winter, spring is (literally) a breath of fresh air. It’s the perfect time to take soft, light-filled, and joyous portraits with floral backdrops you can’t find at any other time of year. So dust off your sandals and break out your favorite floral prints before the fleeting beauty of spring is gone!
