5 Ways to Enjoy Your Third Trimester Before Baby Arrives

Your third trimester might be filled with checklists and baby prep—but it’s also a time to soak in this fleeting stage before everything changes. Whether it’s your first baby or your fourth, you only carry this one for a little while.

This returning client is proof that each pregnancy is worth celebrating. We first worked together when she was expecting her first, and now we’ve captured her second baby bump. As a Philadelphia maternity photographer and new mom myself, I get it even more now—how quickly it all goes.

So if you’re wondering how to make the most of this last chapter before baby arrives, here are 5 ideas to slow down and savor the moment:

1. Document it—on your terms.

A maternity session isn’t about picture-perfect poses—it’s about remembering how this season felt. That quiet excitement. The way your body changed. The way your family grew. I always suggest scheduling photos between 28–34 weeks when your bump is showing but you still feel relatively comfortable.

2. Take a solo day.

No errands, no to-do lists—just you. Maybe that’s a massage, a slow breakfast, or a walk through your favorite part of town. You’re about to share your energy with a newborn, so a little solo recharge is gold.

3. Write a letter to your baby.

It sounds simple, but writing a few paragraphs to your baby (or even your future self!) can help anchor you in the moment. Include how you’re feeling, your hopes, and what you want to remember.

4. Plan one-on-one time with older kids.

If you have other children, carving out special time with them before the baby arrives helps you connect—and gives them a sense of importance during the transition.

5. Treat yourself to a wardrobe refresh.

You don’t have to go on a shopping spree, but a few pieces that make you feel beautiful now can do wonders. (Bonus: I offer a client wardrobe with stunning maternity dresses you can borrow for your session!)

No matter how you choose to slow down, the third trimester is a chance to mark time before it shifts again. And if maternity photos are on your list, I’d love to help you capture this season in a way that feels real, calm, and completely you. Get in touch here.

Hi, I'm  Courtney.

I believe the best photos happen when there's more playing than posing. More connection and less perfection. My sessions are easygoing, lightly guided, and filled with the moments you'll miss most someday.

Historic homes have a way of telling a story long before anything is ever hung on the walls. Collected details like original millwork, tall ceilings and worn hardwood floors give older homes their depth and character. When thoughtfully chosen, artwork can become part of that story rather than competing with it. Oversized family portraits are […]
